Article 3 - Deuces Wild Strategy
There is no payoff for hands less than three of a kind, so if you're coming from a Jacks or Better game, you'll need to adjust your strategy accordingly.
The key in Deuces Wild is to go for the big pay outs - the royal flush. Therefore, when you have three cards toward a royal flush discard the other two and go for it. Of course, the same holds true when you have four to the royal. Thus, if you have two deuces and a 10 or higher along with two sub-10 cards of no value, go for the royal.
If you hold one or two deuces with nothing else, dump the junk and hang onto the deuces. With five unrelated cards, get rid of them all and go for five fresh ones.
Three card flushes or straights and unmatched high cards are worthless in this game and you should discard them.
With two pair hands (which don't pay), hang onto only one of the pairs and go for three new cards. If one of the pairs is teamed with a wild deuce, keep the three of a kind. If the deuce forms a pair with a high card, it does no good at all so keep only the deuce and draw four cards.
Keep a pair unless you've got a three card royal flush, in which case you'll dump the pair and go for the gold.
You'll find that many of the hands dealt will contain nothing worth saving and you'll be drawing for five fresh cards. Three card straights and flushes fit in this category along with some of the others we've mentioned. In any case, don't be afraid to discard your original five cards if they hold nothing of value.
It will take a little while getting used to wild card video poker after playing the non-wild versions, but once you get accustomed to the different pay outs and strategies, you should have lots of fan at these machines.
