Article 3 - Expected Value 
Expected value (EV) is a technique used by many gamblers to determine how to play a particular hand. If the EV is greater than one, the play has a positive expectation; if it is less than one, it has a negative expectation. Professional gamblers do not usually play a hand unless they believe it to have a positive expectation.
In video poker, EV is the average of all the possible outcomes of a particular draw, adjusted by the payouts for possible winning hands. These are not simple calculations. There are 32 ways to draw to a 5-card poker hand, so for every different hand, the EV has to be calculated 32 times in order to deter - mine which is the best draw. Although many of these potential draws can be eliminated by observation, you can see that this is work for a computer.
EV is the basic technique used to mathematically determine the best strategy for playing a video poker hand. It is only mentioned here so that you understand what it is when you encounter the term in other books. It is also the technique used to devise the last three tables in this chapter.

Article 4 - The Tables
The following statistical tables show the frequency and probability of being dealt specific video poker hands. The first table is for an initial 5-card deal. It is based on a 52-card deck where the number of different possible 5-card hands is 2,598,960.
The next three tables show the odds of making specific hands on the draw for the games of jacks or Better, Deuces Wild, and Joker Wild.
