Article 3 - Playing by credits
You will typically play off credits on the video poker machine. In fact, on the latest machines, you will always play off credits since the only way to get started is by inserting a bill into the machine and getting credits posted.
With credits on the machine, getting your cards dealt is as easy as hitting a button. On every machine, you'll see a button marked "PLAY MAX COINS," "PLAY FIVE CREDITS," or a similar play button. Pressing this button deals five cards to you and deducts five credits from your credit total. Thus, if you had 100 credits to start, pressing PLAY FIVE CREDITS would reduce your total to 95 credits. You now have your initial five-card hand.
There is also a button on the machine that allows you to play one credit at a time. This button may be marked "PLAY ONE CREDIT," "PLAY ONE COIN," or the like. Since the maximum number of coins are not being played, you also have to hit the DRAW /DEAL button for the cards to be dealt.

Article 4 - Playing by coin
There are still machines that accept coins for play and the principles are exactly the same as playing by credits. If five coins are inserted (which would be the same as Play Max Credits or Play Max a Coins), your five card hand will automatically be dealt and appear on the screen.
If less than the maximum amount of coins are inserted, you'll need to press the button marked DRAW /DEAL to receive your cards.
Once you have established credits on the machine (by winning hands), until you hit the CASH OUT button, you will be playing by credits anyway and using the "PLAY MAX COINS" or "PLAY FIVE CREDITS" to deal cards.
